Hey everybody…hope you are all doing well out there, wherever you are reading this from. First I want to send a huge thank you to Nicky for her kind and awesome review of my Love Bomb Flowers pattern – she was the first of the pattern testers to finish some and she made a bunch! I love what she did with them! I can feel all the love flowing out from her photos. I’m excited to find out if it’s working ok for the other testers too.
I’ve been working on getting ready for my first art show. Yeah! How cool is that? I was asked to show some paintings at a local studio with a few other artists at the end of this month.
Do you know how much work goes into getting ready for a show? I didn’t either. There are paintings to finish, obviously, but there are also name/price cards to make, an artist statement to write, invitations to give out…making sure I have some business cards or postcards to hand out, finding a guestbook for people who want to be on the email list I’m going to start…figuring out what to wear? And how to talk about my art and mingle and still be a happy introvert in the middle of a busy opening night. (At least I hope it will be busy!)
I’m really enjoying the process of it all though. It’s exhilarating.
It’s also been great to get more feedback on the paintings because it helps me understand if what I’m expressing is actually coming across and how others are reacting to them, what they see in them. Lately they have been called joyful, refreshing, and a couple people have said they remind them of batik. I love batik fabric, and hadn’t even seen that in the paintings. Wasn’t trying to make it look like that. What a happy surprise to hear that.
The studio owner has decided that he’s giving his percentage of the sales to each artist’s favorite charity. Because I work for a nonprofit serving victims & survivors of domestic violence, and because this month is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month here in the U.S., my charity will be my workplace. I’ll get on my soapbox about that, maybe tomorrow, but for now I just want to say how grateful I am to everyone who’s been advising me on how to get ready for this show. I feel utterly loved and supported, more than I can really express. I’ll post more details soon!
